Coach Cate Pumps Up Clinton Elementary

Coach Cate Pumps Up Clinton Elementary

Coach Cate Dill visited with the students at Clinton Elementary on Friday.
Coach Cate Dill spent Friday, May 27, motivating the students at Clinton Elementary School. Dill is a physical education teacher from Sudbury, Massachusetts whose self-proclaimed mission is to “make America fit, one person at a time.”
Dill, or “Coach Cate” as she is affectionately known, is currently on a cross-country bicycle journey to promote healthy living. She arrived at 9:00 a.m. by bicycle, and according to school officials, was greeted by a rush of students.
“She talked to them about healthy living, healthy food, and maintaining a healthy planet. She exercised with them and she spent the afternoon walking and dancing with them during their annual Locomania event, which also promotes healthy living,” said Cecelia Cancellaro, the VP of Public Relations for the school's PTA.
Clinton phys. ed. Teacher Jordyn Freede wrote Coach Cate a letter, inviting her to Clinton. Freede and her fellow physical education teachers Jeff Lehman and Ria Favia were thrilled to host Coach Cate at the school.
In honor of the visit, the Clinton PTA bought two bicycles to be raffled off during the Locomania event. Teague Moss was the lucky winner in the K-2nd grade group and Isobel Weir won the bike in the 3rd-5th grade group.

Art for Education's Sake at Tuscan School+a band playing and a bookfair all at the same time

Art for Education's Sake at Tuscan School

Proud parents — and teachers — came to see students' work at the annual art show.
Sponsored By
Joellen Petronzi is very proud of her students. And for good reason.
Thursday night, the Tuscan Elementary School art teacher showed off the art work of approximately 600 students at the school's 20th annual art show. There was not a free bulletin board or ledge. Every surface that could hold art, had art. This included the art room, which had been turned into a Medieval Hall as part of the third grade's Medieval Studies in Art class.
Over 1,000 student works are on display.
Parent volunteers, along with committee co-chairs Liz Gertner, Peggy Finlayson, Gabrielle Graziano and Mike Parker, mounted, hung and situated the work.
That "work" represented nearly every known art form — and a few heretofore unknown forms: Ceramic thumb pots and birthday cakes; wood block prints and weaving; cereal boxes and a fifth grade video project where the students interviewed local business owners.
For those who can't make it to Tuscan School, there is still more student work on display at the school district offices at 525 Academy Street in Maplewood.
