Rubber Ducky, You're the One — at Least on Memorial Day

Rubber Ducky, You're the One — at Least on Memorial Day

13th Annual Rubber Duck Race coming to Maplewood on Memorial Day, May 30.
One of Maplewood's most fun and photogenic events is fast approaching.
It's the the annual South Orange & Maplewood Kiwanis 13th Annual Rubber Duck Race to be held on Memorial Day, May 30, in Maplewood's Memorial Park  following the Memorial Day parade and festivities at Maplewood Town Hall.
The rubber duck racers can be sponsored for a donation of five dollars at various locations throughout Maplewood and South Orange in the days leading up to the day of the race, as well as at the starting line on the Oakview Avenue bridge on Memorial Day.
Proceeds from the event go towards helping the club raise money for the various children’s organizations that they support. Some of these organizations include the South Mountain YMCA, local Boy & Girl Scouts troops, as well as the Youth & Consultation Service of New Jersey.
The event promises an afternoon of fun and excitement with hundreds cheering on their ducks to win.
There will be six heats in which 600 rubber duck racers will compete. In each, the first 12 ducks to cross the finish line win prizes (each duck has a number written on it in indelible marker).
This year's prizes include:
  • six Nintendo 3Ds,
  • six 32 inch LCD High Definition televisions,
  • six Amazon Kindles,
  • tickets to the New York Mets, plus
  • many more which have been donated by many of the local merchants.
Ducks are "sold" in front of The Maplewood Stationers every weekend.
