Moving to Maplewood: Playground and Parks

From a Recent Client:

"We moved from Bushwick, where our nearest playground was a block away, and it was common for our kids to find well-known playmates or to make new friends — and nine months later, we are happy to say that we have found a wonderful, tight-knit community in Maplewood.

Our oldest, who is almost 4, goes to preschool two days a week and has made a bunch of friends. We have met nearly all her classmates' parents during drop-off and pick-up, and already have a busy schedule of home playdates, playground meetups and birthday parties galore. Our walk to the nearest playgrounds (5-10 minutes, including one at our local elementary school) isn't much longer than in our old neighborhood — and we have the benefit of plenty of green space and more kid-safe areas. There are at least two new families on our block, each with two small kids around the same age as our brood, and tons of children up and down the block.

Within a day of moving here, our neighbors (also with two kids) invited us to the member-only Maplewood Community Pool ( http://twp.maplewood.nj.us/index.aspx?NID=529 ), which we quickly fell in love with — three pools, diving platforms, water slides, swimming lessons and tons of events for adults and children.

There are also plenty of activities in the area, from ballet class to soccer, indoor play spaces (for those long winter days) to tennis courts, ponds, great libraries and a vibrant downtown area. A short drive away is the "pirate ship park" ( http://www.essexcountyparks.org/south-mountain/the-waterfront ) and a kid-friendly hiking trail complete with faerie houses ( http://gonehikin.blogspot.com/2011/09/south-mountain-reservation-nj-locust.html ).

We're bracing for the onslaught of activities that will inevitably follow once our next two kids (ages 2.5 years and 9 months) start preschool, pre-K, etc, and begin to make friends there. But as community, there's definitely no shortage of it in Maplewood!

200,000 and Counting


About 2 years after I first embarked upon a career in real estate, I was checking something that Keller Williams provides its agents: a suggested profile guide with a 'counter' that, when all elements are satisfied, gives you (or in my Type A case) a 100% grade. I was stuck at 97%, so, I challenged myself to figure out what the missing 3% was and the answer was a BLOG:

That day I committed to creating my new blog: www.lovetoliveinmaplewood.com also known as www.lovetoliveinsouthorange.com.

I use this blog to publish local events and happenings, art openings and festivals, sometimes anecdotal stories, educational materials, articles about home decor and architectural stylings and, on occasion, real estate statistics or property hi-lights.

This blog then led me becoming my office's technology coordinator, later the my office's leadership council's technology liaison and now Blogging and Social Media Trainer to our office's agents as well as to any area residents with interest.

So, to my amazement, it gives me great pleasure to report that my blog has just crossed the 200,000 hit counter threshold.


It's hard to believe that that many times my view has been clicked on and read.

Maplewood's Swing Bank Performing For Hilton Neighborhood Assoc.


Hi everyone, the Hilton Neighborhood Association is presenting a fun family event right across the road from Maplecrest Park at the Springfield Avenue gazebo:

The Hilton Neighborhood Association and Maplewood's SwingTown Band will celebrate an evening of music, dancing and delicious treats on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:30 PM at the Gazebo adjacent to Hilton Branch Library on Springfield Avenue.. This is the second year the HNA and SwingTown will share a night of Big Band music conducted by Ben Williams. Bring a chair or blanket, wear your dancing shoes, and enjoy a gathering with your neighbors.

Everyone is welcome; bring the whole family. Introduce your the children to this foot-stomping music . This event is free and open to the public. DEAD or Alive? at SOPAC

(South Orange, May 3, 2016) New York and New Jersey’s premier Grateful Dead cover band, Dead on Live, returns to the South Orange Performing Arts Center June 10 at 8 p.m. Multi-instrumentalist, touring and recording veteran, Marc Muller (Shania Twain, Tommy Shaw, Bruce Springsteen) has brought a cast of world-class musicians together to present with much “deadication,” their truly unique, note-for-note offering paying tribute to the music of the Grateful Dead. Dead on Live remains true to The Dead’s heart and soul by featuring in every show plenty of Grateful classics spanning the eras.

Dead on Live recreates Phil Lesh’s rootless syncopation’s, the rhythmic juggernaut of Kreutzmann and Hart, the heart and soul of Pigpen, Bob Weir’s and Keith Godchaux’s comping, and the touch and tone of Jerry Garcia. Deadheads will enjoy favorites from the early psychedelic 60’s of Anthem of the Sun, songwriting gems of Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, the iconic “live” era recordings of Europe ‘72 to the odd metered lush productions of From the Mars Hotel, Blues for Allah and Terrapin Station.

Lounge in the Loft, a seating area in the SOPAC loft complete with cash bar and snacks, is an excellent way to relax with friends and mingle with other audience members before the show begins and at intermission. Lounge in the Loft will open at 7 p.m., and the performance begins at 8 p.m. A bar in the lobby will also be available. There is an ATM located in the lobby for convenience.

Dead on Live pays tribute to the Grateful Dead at SOPAC June 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25-$35 and can be purchased online at SOPACnow.org, or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.
