Divorce Happens-Interview Featured on Fresh Starts, as we all deserve a fresh start after a divorce!

OLIVIA: Conversation about Divorce with everything you need in terms of education, inspiration and a little bit of laughter, because as we know divorce happens and then you start fresh and we're here with one of our awesome Fresh Starts experts Mark Slade.
OLIVIA: Mark, can you tell us what you do?
MARK: Sure, well I work in real estate so I help people with their real estate needs whether it's buying or selling sometimes both. When it comes to divorce, and that can be even more substantial in terms of trying to help everyone to get out of the lives that they're currently in that they have already decided they want to get out of so they can then get into a "new" life and living scenario that works best for them.
OLIVIA: So, with regard to the house process I will say is very very common when you go through a divorce, to experience either a refinance, or whether you're selling or buying, or both at the same time, so I would love to talk about the importance of sharing what we talk a lot about at Fresh Starts. In fact, this is one of the reasons we built Fresh Starts was because you do have a team of people that that support you through through not just divorce but any big life change. Realtors really need to be part of that team so why should somebody work with a realtor during their divorce, and not even necessarily, Mark?
MARK: If they're thinking of buying or selling right away, having somebody on the team from the get-go is critical, but I guess I should first like to say "that I am part of the tribe," and I have been married previously twice. The first time to my freshman College girlfiend--and I am happy to report that we are still good friends and we share an older son together. As per my second marriage, well, we are not such good friends. So, I've had both extremes I believe that puts me in a position of being very experienced going through this process and makes me a better advocate for you (if you are expecting to go through a divorce) as well as being a better sounding board for you. And this would include making sure your Realtor keeps your divorce on the down low because, my second divorce made the New York Times regarding how a difficult divorce can impact the sale of your marital home. Believe it or, people now actually seek me out sometimes to get advice and I'm more than happy to give you whatever advice I can share, whether it's about real estate or simply trying to help people get through the process of divorce. There is good news, as I can attest that there was definitely light at the end of the tunnel. While you may not feel like it now, when you get through it and you have arrive at your destination, you're going to pull on that train proverbial train whistle and likely be quite happy with where you are. In my case, it took me another try to get where I'm at today and I couldn't be happier in my personal life because my business partner is also my fiance. We so love what we do and we love working together. She is also a formerly married person.
OLIVIA: We always love that little fresh start story. Mark, so you've been through it, which is one of our favorite things about Fresh Starts, if I'm listening to this and I'm considering divorce maybe I am a mom I have a couple kids, why should they call you up Mark?
MARK: Knowing what people may be going through during their divorce and getting you on their team today is so important as most people can't sustain what's going to have to be their new living environments without getting expert advice. I would assume you may know, there are multiple ways to "slice it and dice it," but there's at least one other new domicile. And many times you may need or be forced to sell the primary property that you're in now. But whether there are two new fresh places to live, or just one, there are a lot of considerations that are not just real estate related which is my primary focus but also divorce related. As an example, my second wife actually tried to move to Manhattan to be with her second extra-marital companion while we were still married; and, I'm happy to share that when you are legally married I came to find out that you can't leave the state of New Jersey if you have joint custody. So, I mean there are things that you may not know because you haven't addressed them as of yet and we like to think we can be very helpful in your journey. I mean you know the the interesting thing about being in real estate is because of all the different kinds of experiences we encounter and, by this I mean, the experience ganed by closing over eight hundred transactions on our team. For the record, I'm not saying we've learned everything because I still find something new almost every month or even week, that wows me or surprises me. The reality is that we've experienced an awful lot and therefore can share a lot of advice and like I said earlier, our advice can be the real estate related experience of a divorce or simply the process of going through a divorce. I have lots of advice I can share and that I would love to help people that are going through. Hopefully I can be one of their advocates and help them get through what is a a very stressful experience all around. You can contact me at 917-797-5059.
