The Garden Club of New Jersey
The Garden Club of New Jersey
presents a standard flower show
"FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA"

WHAT EXACTLY IS A FLOWER SHOW?
Flower shows are generally presented by garden clubs or plant societies. This flower show is presented by the state Garden Club of NJ where all the affiliated garden clubs in NJ can be represented. There are floral designs, plants, artistic crafts, photography and educational exhibits on display. Sometimes there will also be special exhibits on display to provide more enjoyment for the public to view. Many shows will include a youth section like the state show.

WHAT DO GARDEN CLUB MEMBERS DISPLAY AT THIS SHOW?
There will be 60! designs for viewing, including eight group designs. There will be 16 artistic crafts and a large youth section. All of the garden club districts will present displays of their activities and members will be on hand to answer your questions about joining a club.

WHO ELSE IS REPRESENTED AT THIS SHOW?
The popular miniature settings experts from the Philadelphia Flower Show will have an exhibit of their work. Rutgers Gardens is participating and two commercial exhibits, one on tiny terrariums and the other which features artists who paint on water. Please see our presentation schedule to learn more.

WHY IS THE TITLE ABOUT SEAS AND NOT FLOWERS?
Each show will select a theme and the entire show will be coordinated through that theme. This year is titled “From Sea to Shining Sea” and features not only theme titles regarding all forms of water but also how important water is to us and how we can conserve our natural resource. The designers will have this theme in mind as they create their designs.

IS THERE A LIST OF ALL THE DISPLAYS I CAN SEE THIS YEAR?
Yes, the entire show is written way in advance so that members can volunteer to create a design or bring in plant materials. This written “list” is called the schedule for the show and includes all the rules that members must follow. Since the way we exhibit is standardized, it enables us to have judges evaluate our creations and then select which entry is the best in the competition. Click on this link for a PDF file of the Schedule.

THIS SHOW IS AMAZING! HOW DO I PARTICIPATE TOO?
The public may bring in plant material, that is, Horticulture on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Please see the schedule above and if you have a wonderful plant specimen, you can contact the horticulture chairman, Elizabeth Lilleston at elizabethlilleston@gmail.com who will provide directions for you.
If you would like to join a club, please look for the membership table directly near the entrance to the flower show. A garden club member will answer your questions for you!

America Blooms! Garden Style Coast to Coast
Celebrate America the Beautiful with a survey of regional designs that reflect the rich diversity of our national landscapes. Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, famously said that gardens should reflect “the genius of the place,” or the nature of their surroundings. The lush tropical gardens of south Florida, the wildflower meadows of the Great Plains, the cottage gardens of coastal Maine and the vine-covered patios of California wine country are good examples -- and the inspiration for display gardens at the 2014 New Jersey Flower & Garden Show. Spanning climates, ecosystems and plant palettes, it’s a cross-country garden tour without the hassle of plane tickets or luggage!

Garden Descriptions for 2014 will be posted by February 1, 2014
