Holy crêpe!
Looking for a crêpe escape? This week we've got the deets on some of Jersey's most palatably paper-thin delights. Savory or sweet, these spots will have you yelping "oui, oui, oui!" all the way home.
What do you get when a French crêperie and a Korean BBQ joint join forces? Kraverie in Jersey City! Craig G says you get "a mix of Jack cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and onions, and your choice of meat (all the Korean standbys: bulgogi, galbi, sesame chicken, grilled pork) served on a scallion-kimchi crêpe" and calls the result "sublime." But Natalia B looks no further than Madame Claude's for "delectable" savories filled with salmon or mushroom. Hoboken's La Bouche is "way more than just a coffeeshop," reps Sean R, who heads over for their "well done" breakfast menu with crêpes.
Similarly, Melissa M wakes up to Bonjour Montclair's "breakfast crêpe with egg, ham, cheese" or "prosciutto, mozz, tomato, and pesto" – though, the crêperie is tiny, so maybe call ahead of time for a wait estimate. Meanwhile, Steve M declares Montclair's Lebanese spot Uncle Moustache a must-dine for their "modern update on Middle Eastern food," including the gluten-free crêpes made with quinoa flour (served at brunch only!). And "if you ever wondered what it would be like to dine in a cute little café in Paris, then you don't need to look any further than Café Paris" in Metuchen. Melissa M's sugar high begins with the Crêpe Moka, featuring Nutella, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream.
Linda P "cues the moaning" with every bite of the Very Berry crêpe at Fair Lawn's Crème de la Crêpes, filled with "sweet mascarpone cheese and sprinkled with strawberries and blueberries." In Ridgewood at Sook Pastry, Denise S doubles up on savory and sweet crêpes, justifying this purchase as "a light lunch" with the reward of a "mind-blowing dessert." And for just dessert, Eric K suggests "a fig crêpe with crème fraîche" at Maplewood's Restaurant Lorena: "Delicious. Light, flaky, not too sweet. A good way to end the heavy meal." Bon appétit!
