Montclair Happenings This Weekend 6/8-6/10

WHAT: Rock and Roll Shabat

WHERE: Bnai Keshet, 99 S Fullerton Ave, Montclair

WHEN: Friday 8 to 10 p.m.

WHY GO: Kabbalat Shabbat service with a Rock & Roll beat. Music by Bnai Keshet adult and teen bands, who will continue to play after the service for listening and dancing. Everyone is invited to attend.

WHAT: Lend Me A Tenor

WHERE: Studio Players, 14 Alvin Place, Montclair

WHEN: Friday and Saturday 8 p.m. & Sunday 3 p.m.

WHY GO: A sensation on Broadway, this screwball comedy will leave you teary-eyed with laughter. The tenor “Il Stupendo,” is scheduled to sing the lead in Otello, but chaos ensues when his wife mistakes an autograph-seeker hidden in his closet for a secret lover, then is accidentally given a double dose of tranquilizers and is presumed dead. But somehow, the show must go on! What follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identities, backstage shenanigans, double entendres and innuendoes – a roller coaster of fun! COST: $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors age 65 and up

WHAT: M M O Kids Carnival

WHERE: MMO Programs, 40 S Fullerton Ave,, Montclair

WHEN: Saturday 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Come join the fun at the second annual MMO Kids' Carnival! We will have pony rides, bouncy houses, live music, carnival games and food. All proceeds will benefit this non-profit preschool's playground improvement fun.

WHAT: An Afternoon With Lisa Verge Higgins

WHERE: Watchung Booksellers, 54 Fairfield Street, Montclair

WHEN: Saturday 1 p.m.

WHY GO Come out to meet Lisa Verge Higgins and pick up a copy of her latest novel, ONE GOOD FRIEND DESERVES ANOTHER! She'll be signing copies & greeting her fans at Watchung Booksellers.

WHAT: Chess at the Library

WHERE: The Café at the Montclair Public Library

WHEN: Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

WHY GO: All ages and skill levels are welcome to play chess on Saturday afternoons. This is a drop-in group, no registration is required.

WHAT: Jazz House Kids Spring Concert

WHERE: The Salvation Army, 13 Trinity Place, Montclair

WHEN: Sunday 3 p.m.

WHY GO: Jazz House Kids presents its end-of-year spring concert. Families, friends, and music lovers are invited to come out to hear the award-winning student ensembles.

WHAT: Performance Workshop Perfomers Present “Imagine”

WHERE: Hillside School, 54 Orange Road, Montclair

WHEN: Sunday 3 p.m.

WHY GO: Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts (SMAPA) will present the talented dancers of The Performance Workshop Ensemble, along with other scholarship students from SMAPA. SMAPA is celebrating 16 years as a non-profit arts education organization serving Montclair and neighboring communities. All proceeds from this concert will benefit Scholarship Funds which serve hundreds of children each year. This year SMAPA has chosen to honor Samuel Huber for his consistent commitment and support of SMAPA and the Performance Workshop Ensemble over the past 16 years. SMAPA is proud to graduate 3 senior members, Marisa Illingworth, Lauren Bomberg and Shannon Toomey all of whom will attend colleges or universities in the fall. This year’s theme is IMAGINE. COST: $20 General Admission; $10 children (3-17) and senior citizens
